As I mentioned in the previous Kitchen Cabinet, I wanted to take a moment to introduce you to your newest 28th District State Representative, Steve O’Ban. Steve and I will be working together a great deal in the coming months to ensure the interests of residents of our legislative district are not forgotten throughout the legislative process. This week, Steve and I had a chance to sit down for lunch together and discuss some of the issues he and I will be partnering on in the near future, including newsletters, telephone town halls and more.
Steve was raised by a single mom, and he and his wife, Laurie, who teaches at TCC, raised two sons. Serving the people of our district is how he hopes to give back to the community he and Laurie love so much. While this will be a challenging session – especially the state budget – Steve believes we can solve our state’s problems by working together in good faith. Like me, Steve knows that good ideas are non-partisan, and some of the best solutions for the people of Washington will always be bi-partisan.
His focus for the 2013 session will be to maintain a strong education system that supports great teachers and promotes innovative learning, encourage a vibrant private-sector job market to help our friends and neighbors get back to work, address our transportation system, major choke points in particular, and update public safety laws to better protect citizens.
Both of Steve’s sons serve in the United States Army. One son is at JBLM and the other son will soon be graduating from West Point and be posted at JBLM. So, Steve couldn’t be a bigger supporter of our brave servicemen and women. Like me, Steve believes that because they and their families are sacrificing so much for all of us, we must do everything we can to help them when they return from deployment and to support their families.
Steve is compiling his own e-mail list in order to send out e-newsletters like this one. To get Steve’s perspective on the House of Representatives (and state government in general), I would encourage you to click this link and subscribe to Steve’s e-mail updates. As always, you can contact either one of us with questions, comments or concerns. My contact information is at the top of this Kitchen Cabinet, and Steve can be reached via e-mail at steve.o’firstname.lastname@example.org, via phone at 360-786-7890 (or on his mobile at 253-312-1688), or at his Olympia office: 424 John L.
